One month to go

So one month from now, on May 4th, we leave Perth for the UK.  One month!

We’ve been planning this move since September, so is feels great that we are getting close; but as you can imagine, this last month is going to be busy, and it will be sad to pick up stumps and leave here for at least a few years.

Fun stuff coming up this month includes packing our own container and sending it off into the giant box-moving machine called ‘international shipping’.  I’ll try and find some time to write about that process as we do it.  We’ll be back living out of suitcases again for between five to nine weeks while our stuff catches up to us.

Before the container gets packed, a lot of paperwork needs to be done.  A lot of sorting and  chucking out stuff.  A few more bits of furniture need selling, even after our “Classy Bargains Galore” garage sale last weekend.

And amongst all that, a trip down south for a few days to catch up with mates before we head off.  My normal work continues in the interim, and I’m turning 42 next weekend.

So, this is a time to sort stuff out and prepare to leave.  I’m getting excited now there’s onluy a month to go…

Perth Craigslist

I never realised that craigslist has different country and city editions.  There is a craigslist for Perth.   Let’s start using this thing:  A lovely, simple, doesn’t get in your way classified ad thing.

And the online quokka is such a painful thing to use.

I’m posting a bunch of for sale items up on perth craigslist.  — things we are getting rid of before travelling overseas.  I’ll post the list here as well shortly.

May 4, 2006

May 4, 2006.  That’s the day we jump on the ‘plane and head for the UK.   We don’t get into the UK and to our chosen place of Brighton until May 16th.  A few days in Hong Kong and a wedding on Ischia (off Napoli) will keep us entertained along the way.

May 4:  less than two months now.  Cor.

So, we are well into getting organised.   We’ve got a massive garage sale coming up, and Lib is off organising us a container and shipping for that we aren’t selling at the garage sale and in the Quokka.
I’m getting work for when we arrive organised, and working on sorting out the loose end here before we go.

So, I’ll announce the garage sale really soon, and probably point to some stuff on ebay as well.

Freak me out there is a lot to do!

Moving to Brighton, UK, in May

After our big travel last year, we came back with a hankering to up and move to Europe for a few years to explore that side of the world. There ar lots of reasons why, but I guess one of the bigs ones is “Because we can”. We are at a time in our lives where moving to the other side of the world is relatively easy, and we are taking the opportunity while it presents itself.

So the plans are solidifying: We leave Perth and arrive in Brighton on the south coast of the UK and set up our home there for at least 2-3 years. And that is all going to happen this coming May.

Why Brighton? Because after talking to lots of people about living in the UK, almost everybody said “You guys ought to live in Brighton.” Lots and lots of people said this to us. So we checked it out. And loved it.

I’ll be writing a bit about our preparations and what we are going to have to look forward to as we get closer to the time.
