Here comes the next phase of podcasting
Here comes the next thing in podcasting… A mass podcast you have to pay for…
The Ricky Gervais Show, one of the most popular podcasts on Apple Computer’s iTunes Music Store, is moving to a paid-only format to be sold by audio book specialist Audible.
Audible plans to announce on Tuesday that it will start selling episodes of Gervais’ show beginning with a new “season two” collection of episodes, which will begin next week. Audible will charge $1.95 per episode or $6.95 for the season, which will include at least four episodes by the creator and star of television’s “The Office.” Audible’s exclusive deal also runs for a “season three,” which will start in the fall.
Now, The Ricky Gervais Show has been one of the top-rating podcasts on iTunes. The whole show is prety loose, very like that jokey style of morning-show radio. I’m not sure people are going to pay for it. My feeling is that people might pay for more ’solid’ podcast content, particularly something that would benefit from two or more listens.
But we’ll see, won’t we? If it were me, I think I would have done a sponsorship deal for the show. After all, they have a lot of listeners. They might not have that many left after charging $1.95 an episode.
ValuesHacker steaming ahead
A few teething troubles with the ValuesHacker podcast distribution are over now. It just took a little while to settle down our production process and get the proper site up and running on The Podcast Network.
So, if you haven’t listened yet, why not wander over to the ValuesHacker blog and subscribe, or even subscribe using iTunes by clicking here. I guess iTunes is probably the easiest, but there are other options as well on the blog, including just listening to the shop straight off the website, streamed like.
We’ve got another couple of show ready to go up in the next couple of days too. So, there’ll be more soon.
Podcasting is serious good fun. Here’s how to get your own show together.
My ValuesHacker podcast launched on TPN
My new podcast, The ValuesHacker Show, has just been launched on The Podcast Network (TPN).
On ValuesHacker, Graham Mann and I talk through the big issues in values in our daily lives and talk and laugh our way through a few stories and into a bunch of practical tools to help you align your values, thinking and actions.
The big issues we take on are things like Fear, Lies, National values, and lots more topics yet to be recorded. We are still feeling our way with the podcast, so I guess we’ll get better at it as we roll out a few more episodes.
The plan is we publish a new episode each week, each one about 30-40 minutes. And with each episode, we like to leave you with a bunch of practical tools to work on your values with.
So, please have a listen, and we would love some feedback and comments on the ValuesHacker blog. You can listen to the show on the blog or subscribe there as well.
I hope you enjoy it. We have great fun making it.
Me on G’Day World
I was a guest host on the TPN G’Day World podcast (#84) yesterday along with Richard Giles and Cameron Reilly. It was great fun.
Listen here, or subscribe to G’Day World from the iTunes podcast directory.
Podcast Green Light
Good news on the podcast front! Graham Mann and I have recorded a couple of shows now and should be all set up for distribution on The Podcast Network as of next week.
We’ve called our podcast The Values Hacker Show, and we’ll be doing a weekly podcast talking though the big issues in our world from a values perspective, including a bunch of practical tools to work on your values and understanding of the big issues in the world. Oh, and we try and keep it light and funny as well.
I’ll publish the details here as soon as we get things up and going at the TPN end. Huge props to Graham for being an inspiring co-host and to Cameron over at TPN for making the process of joining TPN so easy and friendly.
Our new podcast in the works
I’ve got a new
We (my great friend and co-host Graham Mann and I) are recording our first show tomorrow.
We’ll arrange a name and hosting after that. What are we going to call it? I was going to call it G2, but that is already taken for another podcast. What name then? “This week in Gravyland?” or something. Got any suggestions?
I think it is going to be really interesting podcast.
What is it all about? Well, episode by episode, we are going to discuss the values that people hold about the big issues in our lives and how that makes them behave. Or how people behave completeley differently to their values. With a few laughs and a good dose of thinking tools, references and ideas thrown in as well.
Wish us luck, and keep and eye out! When we’ve got the first episode out, I’ll promote it here.
Be talking to ya.

Thanks Rich. It was great fun. Let’s do it again sometime.
Oh, and did I mention that I’m an occasional writer for Gadget Lounge? Emphasis on occasional. Got a couple of notes up there in a month or two. I will do better. I will do better. I will do better …. :-)
