Thoughts from the sick bed

I spent a day at home yesterday, resting. I’ve been going flat out for a couple of weeks, with glands up and a scratchy throat. It is not going away, so it was time to rest for a day and give my body a chance to make itself well.

It didn’t work, though. Today I’m worse. Time to go to the doctor.

A day off had given me thinking, reading and sleeping time. I finished reading Not Happy John today and it has got me thinking. It was a good read. I’m glad I made the effort. It is a lot more positive a book than the title might suggest. I recommend it to you.

It chronicles lots of sleazy dealing by the major parties, particularly the Liberals. It reminds me why I feel better voting for the minor parties, even if their preferences end up with one of the majors.

I listened to a bunch of parliament on radio yesterday, catching some of the Senate debate on the enabling legislation for the Free Trade Agreement. I was glad to hear Labor’s Senator Kate Lundy say sensible things about intellectual property and the FTA. It was good to hear her say that Labour would make ‘fair-use’ amendments to the Copyright Act, allowing people to legally time-shift and space-shift copyrighted materials for personal use. I’m glad somebody in government understands the issues.
