This is going to be an very interesting pilot project. When you think about the mix of diversity of views about what sustainability means in and around Margaret River (to sustain traditional farming life, freedom to grow and 'develop', conservation of unique natural environment, sustainability of an industry in over-production etc) which future is the one that is to be sustained. Add to this mix CSIRO's vision of what sustainability means, and what should be a simple model for sustainability governance becomes a real litmus test of the tough issues in sustainability - especially concerning the role of community consultation and visioning in planning governance - unity in diversity? Only if done with real fore-thought.
